“Marsh Cottage was our new build project of the year, near the village of Wargrave. Our client wanted out with the old and in with the new on this one.

The existing dwelling on the property was originally in disrepair and after some minor alterations we put in new windows, a kitchen, flooring and decorated throughout to give it a last breath of life while the family lived in the property and we built a new timber frame home in their garden! This astounding home externally is wrapped with render, cladding and finished with a flawless zinc roof. The high specification of material really gives this home a wow factor. The design is stunning, and we followed it to the letter. A massive open plan living, kitchen and dining area along with downstairs guest bedroom and ensuite, office, utility, and a snug. Upstairs we have more bedrooms with incredibly high vaulted ceilings and a Juliet balcony in the master with great views across the countryside. After the completion of this project, we carefully deconstructed the existing dwelling and upcycled and recycled the materials. This home embodies sustainable building with its solar panels, high insulation u-values, sedum roof and sustainable materials where possible.

“We were excited to be undertaking works at the former home of the late George Michael sat alongside the River Thames. The new owners wanted to bring about their mark on the iconic riverside property and we were on hand to bring that vision to life.

We added two new extensions to the cottage, both single story. One located on the front of the house to create a grand entrance way equipped with a rooflight and stunning new front door. The extension also created two office spaces, one overlooking the Thames with sliding doors and the other facing the entrance to the property. The extension also contained a large boot room and extensive hallway into the rest of the home seamlessly connecting new and old together, with the inclusion of some exposed brickwork to transition the two and stick with the charm of the original. Underfloor heating throughout to maximise wall space and comfort, with tiles in the hallways and boot room and engineered wood flooring in the office spaces. Some steel work to hold it all together and a fresh coat of paint in the existing effected spaces makes it feel like it’s always been there.

On the rear of the property, we added a day room to expand the kitchen space and allow for maximum light into the area we installed a lantern in the flat roof space. The cantilevered steels allowed us to include some magnificent sliding doors that fully open on the corner with no interruption so you can walk from your kitchen table to the wonderful gardens, bringing both spaces together. We finished the whole of the surrounding property with a tumbled limestone paver that compliments the building and general aesthetic.

A truly grand project for a grand home and we hope the spaces are enjoyed for many years to come.”

“This grand home located in Upper Basildon needed a serious refurbishment right the way through the distinctive ‘X’ shaped property.

The team began the project by attacking the lodge to the side of the property so the family could utilise the space to be lived in while the works were underway in the main house. The Lodge works included adding additional insulation and updating the cladding on the external façade. Internally the team carried out a replaster, rewire, redecoration and a new kitchen and bathroom to finish off the internal works to make a comfortable living space during the total refurbishment of the main house.

The near yearlong project was well underway with the goal to get the family back into the main house for Christmas. The team wrapped the entire building with an external insulated render to add much needed u-value to the fabric of this building. A total remodel inside the property included additional bathrooms and ensuites as well as structural steelwork to open various spaces and create new ones, including the vast open plan kitchen diner. Additionally, the raising of the ceiling and addition of a new fireplace in the wonderfully presented living and bar area. Other alterations consisted of a custom-made dog shower, new doors and windows throughout, new subfloor and finished floors. As well as a total redecoration, plaster, rewire. Externally a new driveway, external patio, planting, and other landscaping additions along with a new sewage treatment plant brought this cold and damp property well into the 21st Century to be enjoyed inside its wonderful grounds. A true pleasure to be able to visit the property a year after and see the home settle back into its stunning surroundings with nature.

“This build of two homes in North Hampshire was an exciting project for the BMR team, working closely with the client to build two homes on their land at the front of the property.

While being sold off plan these homes were able to be designed internally to the customers specification of finished making sure for maximum satisfaction. These new build homes designed by Absolute Architecture are wonderfully energy efficient utilising underfloor heating, modern insulation and performance values from the windows create a lovely cosy home in a beautiful setting. The angled skeiling’s in the bedrooms add character to the space and still allow for very large bedrooms in the properties with great views.

The large open plan living downstairs allows for a massive Kitchen, dining and living area. The downstairs also boasts a spacious utility and pantry space, a superbly finished entrance hallway with masses of head height, downstairs office, games rooms and two bathrooms all with glorious underfloor heating to maximise wall space and consistent ambient temperatures.

Building the project in full to BMR’s standards allowed us to be completely satisfied with the product we are providing and are very proud of this project, looking forward to our next new build home currently being built.”
